01Menu bar

One click.
The clock runs.

WerkTakt lives in your menu bar – not in the Dock, not in your way. One click opens the timer, and the running time is always visible at the top right. The day ruler shows your day like a measuring instrument: grey for what’s done, orange for what’s running.

  • Start and stop with one click
  • Right-click opens the menu with every command
  • Today at a glance – with a total

02Switching

Switch projects
without switching apps.

Press ⌃ ⌥ T in any app, type a few letters, ↵. The old entry ends, the new one begins – to the second. Create new projects right there.

Try it: press ⌃ ⌥ T now – or tap the keys.

Works without Accessibility access. No keystrokes are read.

03Journal

See where your time goes.

Week, month, year or any custom range. The Journal shows your timeline, hours by client, billable revenue and your effective hourly rate – the number that tells you whether a project was worth it.

04Billing

From timer to invoice.
To the cent.

Hourly rate, rounding and budget per project. One click turns it into a clean PDF timesheet with your letterhead – and the amounts add up exactly to the total on your invoice.

  • Rounding exact, 1, 5, 6, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes – rounded up per entry
  • Budget per project, with a warning when you go over
  • PDF summarised per day or in detail, with a sign-off field
  • CSV for Excel, Numbers and your bookkeeping

05Idle time

Forgot to pause?
Happens.

If you were away with the timer running, WerkTakt asks when you’re back: keep the time, subtract it and continue, or subtract it and stop. No phantom hours on your invoice.

To do this, WerkTakt reads only the system idle time – a single number. No keystrokes, no windows, no content.

06Appearance

Light. Dark.
Just like your Mac.

Warm white and graphite, a single orange for running time. Drag the slider.

10FAQ

Good to know.

Support & guide →

Is there a subscription?

No. You buy WerkTakt once on the Mac App Store – no subscription, no account, no hidden costs.

Can I try WerkTakt before buying?

There’s no trial at the moment. App Store purchases are handled by Apple – if it’s not right for you, you can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Questions before you buy? Just email me.

Do I need an internet connection or an account?

No. WerkTakt works fully offline and makes no network connections.

Can I use WerkTakt on more than one Mac?

Yes, your purchase covers every Mac signed in with your Apple Account. Data is stored locally on each Mac. With the daily backup in iCloud Drive you can bring your hours to a new Mac. Continuous sync between several Macs is not part of version 1.0.

Which permissions does WerkTakt need?

None special. The ⌃⌥T shortcut works without Accessibility access, and idle detection only reads the system idle time. WerkTakt can only access folders you choose yourself for backups or exports.

How do I get my data out?

As CSV (for Excel, Numbers or your bookkeeping), as a PDF timesheet and as a daily backup in open JSON. Your data is never locked into WerkTakt.

Can I change the keyboard shortcut?

In version 1.0 it’s fixed to ⌃⌥T – chosen because no common app uses it and it doesn’t block any special characters.

Who is WerkTakt for?

Freelancers and small studios who bill by the hour: design, development, writing, consulting, architecture, translation. If you juggle several clients and projects and need a clean invoice at the end of the month, you’re in the right place.
